Attention seeking Hatstand Valets

Attention seeking valets

When I first introduced the Hatstand Valets I wondered what kind of homes they would find their way into. They make a statement in any bedroom or dressing room, especially the skull option.

Not long after the skull started to sell I noticed he was becoming a regular choice for men who ordered valets for their office, lawyers and businessmen who maybe have him as a vailed threat to potential adversaries.

The velvet flock hat rest can be a little more gentle. Whether blending in with its surroundings or going for a complete contrast. On the website it’s listed black as standard but a there’s a selection of colours available as a bespoke detail.

Then there’s the globe option with a beautiful, handmade globe made by traditional British globe makers Lander and May. Something from the study in your dressing room.

If you’re looking for a valet that adds a bit of interest in your room, have a look at the hatstand valets. There’s plenty to choose from and the bespoke service if you have something different in mind.

Juglans nigra

Or as it’s more commonly known, walnut. The warm tones of walnut have proven to be the most popular of all the timbers I use to make the gentleman’s valets.

I usually finish the valets with oil because it doesn’t obscure the close grain. It does however show the rich browns in the walnut beautifully, darker and sometimes a slightly cold colour at first, soon becoming warmer just from exposure to daylight.

Something nice to hang on your wall.

With the arrival of Valet no.9 earlier this year, I now make 4 different wall mounted valets. Add all the various options of timber, trouser hanger, accessory trays and hat rests and there’s 65 possible variations before any bespoke details are added into the equation. I won’t pretend I’m 100% certain of that figure, I only have 10 fingers and now a sore head from trying to work it out.

Valet no.9, bad puppy!

Some of man’s best friends are more dependable than others. Valet no.9, very good for your suits, cute puppies not so much so.

Valet no.9 is my first valet with hangers which lift off the valet in normal use. Its styling is intended to blend with the look of a room, working just as well in a contemporary or traditional style of room. Continue reading

#PleasejoinmeonInstagram!

I promise that’s not a serious Instagram hashtag which is what anyone who’s been trying to get seen on Instagram will be used to doing to try and reach a wider audience.

I still think the simple white backgrounds on this website show the valets in a nice neutral way. But on the other hand, the more time I spend on Instagram the more I can see it can give me a fun and valuable opportunity to show the valets in very different situations.

Come and see what I’ve been up to on Instagram and please follow the almost endless stream of images. As always I’d be grateful to hear what anyone who is thinking about owning a valet thinks about them and what detail changes might make one of the range perfect for them.

Flocked Hatstand Valets for gents not afraid of a little colour.

Velvet flock hat rests have been available since I first launched this website. Up till now they’ve been discreetly offered in black with colour just quietly mentioned as a bespoke option. A recent order made me wake up my ideas about the velvet flock covered balls. Continue reading

Red Hatstand Valet

The daily social whirl of valet making.

A few months ago I decided to rethink my social media efforts. I’m now posting one photo a day on instagram etc, most days of the week. With only my cut out valet images, self taught photoshop and the internet I’m trying to get across a mixture of style and quality. Continue reading

Maison&Objet Paris January 2016

This was the Gentleman’s Valet Company’s first excursion to the Maison&Objet exhibition in Paris. Attended by interior designers and retailers from all over the world, it’s one of the few opportunities I get to put valets in front of the people who might source them for clients. Continue reading
