Bespoke clothes rail

Bespoke clothes rail.

I made this oak clothes hanging rail last year to replace an old metal one. An unusual commission but a lot of my work comes from people trying to upgrade something in their homes. Something that does the job but now they want a more attractive version.

The ubiquitous metal hanging rail does its job well so there had to be some improvements. This one has the rail of course, but also a shelf on the bottom for shoes and bags, an umbrella stand, a hook for coats or bags on the opposite end and a top shelf with bowls for smaller items like keys, change and phones.

The top tray is a nice object on its own. A bit like the desk top valets we’ll be introducing later this year.

The umbrella stand is a detail I used on an earlier commission, an oak hall cabinet which worked well.
