The new shape Gentleman’s Retainer
This is the new shape Gentleman’s Retainer introduced at Maison&Objet in Paris in January’16. It’s a more interesting, angular and masculine shape. But like all the valets it’s still a very tactile piece of furniture.
The jacket hanger is slightly shorter than before in the neck section but still fills the jacket shoulders beautifully.
There’s changes to the trouser hanger. It’s now slimmer and sits within the jacket sleeve not interfering with the line of the jacket on the valet. There’s a strip of velvet flock added to the top of trouser bar to prevent the trousers slipping off if there’s anything weighty in the pockets.
One purely practical reason for changing the shape of the Retainer was to make it easier to ship to overseas clients. The two sections of the column join at the waist with a wooden threaded dowel.
There’s also an easy connection at the bottom of the leg and the plinth.
Once the leg section is located a couple of washers and a hand tightened wing nut holds the leg and plinth together. There’s no need for any tools.
The same easy assembly is used with “Grace”.
